After two headed goals in his team’s 5-2 win against DC United, Nashville SC striker CJ Sapong has been named to the MLS Team of the Week.
The 11th-year pro scored in the 14th and 31st minutes to give Nashville a 2-1 lead en route to the victory. It was his second multi-goal performance of the year, after he scored a pair against FC Cincinnati July 24. He now has eight goals on the season. Sapong also completed 73.3% of his passes, had three key passes (those leading to a shot), won 58.3% of his duels, and drew five fouls.
Sapong finished second in MLS Player of the Week voting.
He is the 10th selection for Nashville this season, with Joe Willis getting the nod after Week Three, Alex Muyl and Walker Zimmerman both members of the TOTW after Week Four, Hany Mukhtar after a brace in Week Seven and an MLS-record hat trick in Week 13, Luke Haakenson for his two-goal heroics in Week Nine, Randall Leal in Week Ten, Sapong himself for the aforementioned FC Cincinnati performance in Week 15, and Robert Castellanos in Week 16.
