Nashville SC selects Creighton midfielder Luke Haakenson with fourth-round MLS SuperDraft pick

Nashville SC closed out its participation in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft with a selection of Creighton midfielder Luke Haakenson in the fourth round. The 5-10, 175-pounder is a product of the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Development Academy program in Minnesota, and hails from the Twin Cities area.

In four years in Omaha, Haakenson played in 74 games, starting all 17 as a senior and 14/18 contests in each of his sophomore and junior years. He scored five goals and notched two assists for the Blue Jays this season, second on the squad, and bringing his career totals to 12 goals and 11 assists.

MLSSoccer.com’s David Gass reached out to give a bit of a scouting report on Haakenson: “Super skilled but strong enough to play in MLS. Obviously long shot to make MLS but I like him.”

He played PDL ball with Chicago FC United in 2018, notching three goals and three assists in 866 minutes.

His birthdate was not given on the eligible player list (one of a very small number of the 140 draft-eligible players without a birthdate listed), but given that he’s a graduating senior, it’s likely he’s on the older end of the spectrum, as well. As with Shak Adams, he’ll likely have the preseason to earn a contract after participating as an unsigned draftee.

More to come on Haakenson.
