Halftime reset: Boys in Gold up a man, not a goal

NASHVILLE – With the chance for either team to earn a major leg up on the opponent when it comes to hosting a USL Championship playoff, game, neither Nashville SC nor the Pittsburgh Riverhounds was able to find the opener in the first half at First Tennessee Park.

The game played out much to the script that the Riverhounds typically employ: make the contest about hard-nosed play in midfield, and hope to his on the counter.

However, Nashville may have the opportunity to build some momentum after the break thanks to a very off-script moment in the 40th minute. Riverhounds centerback Tobi Adewole performed a hard – and more importantly, late – two-legged tackle on Nashville’s Ken Tribbett, and was shown the red card. While Tribbett was down on the turf for more than a minute, he was able to continue, while Adewole was sent to the showers.

Nashville had a moment of solid interplay shortly before the halftime break, but Lebo Moloto’s shot was pulled wide of the post, leaving the game level.

With the man advantage for the remaining 45 minutes, the Boys in Gold should have more of those opportunities, If they can capitalize on them, they have a chance to go (however briefly) top of the Eastern Conference table. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, will hope to defend its goal and hit on the counter with limited numbers to commit to the attack.
