For six minutes – from the moment the game clock hit 6 until the moment it hit 12 – the Nashville SC supporters section was silent. Most of the stadium was silent, in fact. You can forgive some less-plugged-in folks around the stadium for not knowing why.
12 days ago, three students and three staff members were murdered at Covenant School, four point one four miles away from GEODIS Park. Four point seven zero miles away from Nashville SC’s (now-former!) training facility at Currey-Ingram Academy. For six minutes Nashville SC supporters did what they could to honor 12 lungs that will never breathe again, 6 hearts that were pierced by bullets bursting from the barrel of a weapon that nobody needs to have, no matter how much we have a bizarre “actually, I need this to protect my family from 30-50 feral hogs” news cycle when it’s an instrument of death against nine literal children, including NSC supporters.
So anyway, Nashville decided to cede possession to a team that has very little MLS talent aside from Federico Bernardeschi, and he couldn’t score. Then NSC also couldn’t connect the final pass to score. It was frustrating for the viewer for all the obvious reasons. But shout out to the Nashville supporters – who tried to actually do something in this world.
