After a two-goal performance in the attack, and a shutout – with no shots on target – defensively, Nashville SC defender Jack Maher has been named to the MLS Team of the Week for the first time in his career. His performance was crucial to Nashville SC’s 3-0 road victory over Vancouver Whitecaps.

Maher scored on a corner-kick header, assisted by Hany Mukhtar, then floated home a second header just after halftime in a free-kick situation. Nashville’s second and third goals in a 3-0 victory belonged to the third-year player, but the performance outside of goal-scoring was impressive, as well. He completed 73/81 passes, blocked four Vancouver shots, and won back possession nine times for his team.

He finished second in MLS Player of the Week voting*

This is the first TOTW of Maher’s career, but the 15th representative for Nashville SC this season. Hany Mukhtar was named in Weeks 8, 12, 14, 16, and 26. Dave Romney was on the list in Weeks 6 and 10, Randall Leal in Weeks 10 and 20, Gary Smith in Weeks 1 and 14, while Aníbal Godoy (1), Walker Zimmerman (4), and CJ Sapong (13) have one honor apiece.

* Disclosure: as President of North American Soccer Reporters, I run media voting for the award.
