Nashville SC survived in the US Open Cup by the skin of the teeth last night, and now, the Boys in Gold know their Round of 16 fate. In a draw on ESPN’s Futbol Americas, NSC was drawn against Louisville City FC – and a first trip to Lynn Stadium.
NSC and Louisville City have a 2-2-1 regular-season record in USL, while Louisville won the lone US Open Cup match to date. They split a trio of regular-season games – each side winning 2-0 at home before drawing in Louisville – and LCFC knocked the Boys in Gold out of the Open Cup in the Round of 16. In 2019, each team won a 2-1 home match, while the sides did not face off in Cup play. Nashville also won preseason friendlies against LCFC in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
In the other half of Nashville SC’s bracket, Orlando City and Inter Miami CF will face off.
NSC and IMCF played twice in the pandemic-shortened inaugural season they shared, with NSC winning 1-0 in Nashville and the teams drawing in South Florida. Inter Miami CF earned a draw at Nissan Stadium in the third game of the 2021 season before the teams’ fortunes diverged. NSC was upset in Fort Lauderdale once, but smashed the expansion sibling 5-1 in the third matchup. The teams are not scheduled to play in the regular season this year.
Orlando City SC beat Nashville 3-1 and the teams drew 0-0 in Nashville to open the MLS series between the two in 2020. In a decision-day thriller, the Boys in Gold earned a 3-2 come-from-behind victory to seal a home playoff match. The teams drew three times last year. In addition, Nashville’s USL squad beat a rotated Orlando side 3-0 in a preseason friendly in 2018. The teams are not scheduled to play in the regular season this year.
The Nashville/Louisville match will be played the 24th or 25th of May – to be announced later this evening or tomorrow. The winner of the four-team regional bracket will take on the winner of the Northeast region in the semifinal.
