Elliot Panicco loaned to Indy Eleven

One member of Nashville SC’s goalkeeper depth chart is (temporarily) out of town. From Club release:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 4, 2022) – Nashville Soccer Cub announced today it has loaned Goalkeeper Elliot Panicco to Indy Eleven of the USL Championship for the 2022 season. Nashville SC has the ability to terminate the loan agreement at any point throughout the season.

Nashville SC selected Panicco with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, presented by adidas. The goalkeeper was signed to an MLS contract on Feb. 25, 2020 and has yet to make his debut with the Boys in Gold.

Nashville SC release

It’s no surprise – after Gary Smith said yesterday that 2022 SuperDraft pick Will Meyer has signed – to see a goalie loaned out. Given that Joe Willis has still yet to miss a minute for the club, it makes sense to get Panicco minutes while veteran Bryan Meredith is the backup and Meyer has a chance to learn from the veterans before likely going out on loan next season.

Going to Indy is also solid because there’s not as much distance from Nashville as there is, say, going to Austin (where he was last year, though the USL team there is no more). He can be recalled – or even train with NSC occasionally – much more easily.
