One week down, and two Team of the Week honors for Nashville SC. Midfielder Aníbal Godoy, who anchored Nashville to a clean sheet performance while contributing the winning goal on the other end, is joined by his head coach to open the season with honors for Nashville SC.
Godoy also finished third in MLS Player of the Week voting: with 12.2% of the media vote, he was edged by Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez by virtue of not being on the fan-vote ballot.
Godoy dunked home a back-post cross from Randall Leal in the 80th minute to provide the winner at Seattle, and was involved in 10 duels, provided one key pass, and intercepted two passes while making eight recoveries defensively. In his time with Nashville SC, Godoy previously made the MLS Team of the Week in week 13 of 2020.
Smith ran out a tactical plan that regularly flummoxed Seattle, and led to victory over a team that had lost just seven home games in the previous three years combined. Smith previously was MLS Coach of the Week in week 11 of 2020.
