Walker Zimmerman called for November World Cup Qualifying window

Folks, he’s done it again. After being an injury replacement for the October matches – and subsequently starting two of the three matches – Nashville SC defender Walker Zimmerman will once again represent his country.

From Club release:

This morning U.S. Soccer announced that Walker Zimmerman has been called in for 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying competition in this international window.

The USMNT sits in second place of Octagonal with USA-Mexico, slated for Nov. 12 in Cincinnati with kickoff slated for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2, Univision and TUDN. Four days later, the USMNT will face Jamaica at Independence Park in Kingston on Tuesday, Nov. 16 (Paramount+ and Universo).

Zimmerman has earned 20 caps for the Men’s National Team, and was selected as the Captain in the last window of qualifying matches.

Nashville SC release

I’d thought maybe he’d get passed by with the USMNT needing fewer bodies with a two-game window rather than three, and MLS playoffs immediately after the break. However, John Brooks was among those not selected after a run of mediocre form for club and country, and Zimmerman could be poised to make major contributions against Mexico and Jamaica.
