For his efforts in helping hold a high-flying New York City FC team to a scoreless draw, Nashville SC’s Walker Zimmerman was named to the Major League Soccer Team of Week 29.
Zimmerman took two shots (totaling 0.17 xG), completed 75.6% of his passes (including a key pass), recorded two tackles, and won nine of 20(!) duels. He was also responsible for all three of Nashville’s shot-blocks on NYCFC attempts, helping the Boys in Gold turn 12 shots against into zero goals against.
He is the 15th Team of the Week selection for Nashville this season, with Joe Willis getting the nod after Week Three, Alex Muyl and Zimmerman on the TOTW after Week Four, Hany Mukhtar after a brace in Week Seven and an MLS-record hat trick in Week 13, Luke Haakenson for his two-goal heroics in Week Nine, Randall Leal in Week Ten, striker CJ Sapong after weeks 15 and 19, Robert Castellanos in Week 16, Zimmerman again in Week 20, Dan Lovitz in Week 22, Mukhtar again in week 23, and Zimmerman in Week 24. Four weeks between TOTW honorees was a season-high for Nashville (though the Boys in Gold had a bye during one of those).
