After scoring the game’s only goal – and making some crucial plays to help his team keep a clean sheet – Nashville SC defender Walker Zimmerman has been named to Major League Soccer’s Week 24 Team of the Week.
Zimmerman scored the game winner in the 66th minute, heading home a free kick from Hany Mukhtar.
In addition to the goal, Zimmerman completed 88.9% of his passes, engaged in three duels, and committed one foul. His 74th-minute block of a Sunusi Ibrahim shot stamped out what was likely CF Montreal’s best scoring chance in the contest.
Zimmerman finished fourth in Player of the Week voting – despite not making the fan ballot – with 11.11% of the total vote (14.81% of North American Soccer Reporters voting).
He is the 14th Team of the Week selection for Nashville this season, with Joe Willis getting the nod after Week Three, Alex Muyl and Zimmerman on the TOTW after Week Four, Hany Mukhtar after a brace in Week Seven and an MLS-record hat trick in Week 13, Luke Haakenson for his two-goal heroics in Week Nine, Randall Leal in Week Ten, striker CJ Sapong after weeks 15 and 19, Robert Castellanos in Week 16, Zimmerman again in Week 20, Dan Lovitz in Week 22, and Mukhtar again last week.
