Boys in Not Gold: July 30, 2021

A little late with this week’s update, so without further ado:

Winger David Accam

On loan to Hammarby IF in Sweden

Accam entered as a 72nd-minute substitute in Hammarby’s 2-1 win over Norrköping in the Swedish Allsvenskan. He did not register statistically.

In his team’s UEFA Conference League (the third tier of continental competition in Europe) victory against Slovenia’s NK Maribor, he started and scored the game-winner in the fifth minute:

He was subbed out at halftime, but his team managed to hold on for the victory.

Defender Alistair Johnston

On international duty with Canada for the Gold Cup

Johnston continued to start for the Canucks, going the full 90 in each of their knockout-stage games at right centerback.

Canada held Costa Rica to just four shots in a 2-0 win in the quarterfinal, none of them on goal. He completed 82.1% of his passes and won 60% of his duels, making one tackle and committing one foul.

It was not quite as easy a task in the 2-1 loss to Mexico in last night’s semifinal. Mexico got off 14 shots, and found the winner deep into second-half stoppage time (in a classic Concacafing), with Johnston cutting off a path to goal for Rodolfo Pizarro, but the Inter Miami man managing to lay off for the Hector Herrera finish. Johnston completed 82.1% of his passes and won 66.7% of his duels. He also made three tackles and committed two fouls.

Up next: Canada’s run at the Gold Cup is over, and Johnston will rejoin the Boys in Gold soon – though perhaps not quickly enough to be in this weekend’s lineup in his home city.

Defender Tom Judge

On loan to Pittsburgh Riverhounds in USL Championship

Did not make the lineup as Pittsburgh beat New York Red Bulls II 3-1.

Defender Miguel Nazarit

On loan to Independiente Santa Fe in Colombia

Nazarit was not on the bench as Independiente Santa Fe lost 4-3 to Atlético Bucaramanga in the Liga Betplay Clausura.

Up next: Independiente Santa Fe v. Atlético Nacionál in Liga BetPlay • 8 p.m. CDT Tuesday

Defender Nick Hinds and goalkeeper Elliot Panicco

On season-long loans to Austin Bold FC in USL Championship. Nashville has right of recall if necessary.

Panicco and Hinds both started as Rio Grande Valley battled back after a 50th-minute red card to salvage a 1-1 draw against Rio Grand Valley FC.

Panicco went the distance and made two saves in addition to the allowed goal. He completed 12/28 passes with 23 of the attempts longballs.

Hinds played left pack in a 4-4-2 and was subbed off in the 78th minute. He completed 22/28 passes, with just 5 long attempts. He also won 3/6 duels, made two tackles and an interception, and committed one foul.
