Nashville SC

Boys in Not Gold: July 22, 2021

A couple days late here because of how much is going on in the soccer world, but let us get right into our regular rundown of Nashville SC players who are away from home.

Winger David Accam

On loan to Hammarby IF in Sweden

Hammarby beat Örebro 2-0 in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Accam started at left wing and played 79 minutes before being subbed out. It was what he did in the first minute, however, that actually provided the difference in the game: he assisted Astrit Selmani with a lovely little through-ball to give his team a lead they would only extend:

That’s Accam’s second goal contribution in three games since the season resumed after its summer break.

Midfielder Aníbal Godoy

On international duty with Panama in the Gold Cup

The extent of Godoy’s injury was confirmed to be significant enough to keep him out of the remainder of the Gold Cup. While he traveled for the first couple group-stage games, he has returned to Nashville. His future availability timeline is still TBD.

Defender Alistair Johnston

On international duty with Canada for the Gold Cup

Johnston started and went the distance in Canada’s 1-0 loss to the United States in the Group B finale. He played at RCB in a back-five system that also saw him swing to a right-back analogue in a back-four look. Johnston completed 90.7% of his passes, won 2/5 duels, and was fouled once.

In losing to the United States, Canada finished second in Group B, advancing to Mexico’s half of the bracket.

Defender Tom Judge

On loan to Pittsburgh Riverhounds in USL Championship

Judge was an unused substitute on the bench as Pittsburgh beat Loudoun United 1-0. The Hounds were playing a 3-5-2, but even a 68th-minute yellow for LWB Daniel Rovira didn’t provide Judge an opportunity to get his first USL action.

Defender Miguel Nazarit

On loan to Independiente Santa Fe in Colombia

Nazarit was not on the bench as Independiente Santa Fe lost 2-1 to Deportivo Calí.

Up next: Independiente Santa Fe v. Atlético Bucaramanga in Liga BetPlay • 3:30 p.m. CDT Sunday

Defender Walker Zimmerman

With the USMNT for the Gold Cup

Zimmerman started and was the captain for the United States against Canada, but left the pitch with injury in the 12th minute of play and with his team leading 1-0 (the score by which they’d ultimately defeat Canada). He completed 4/9 passes, won 2/4 duels, and committed one foul in his time on the pitch.

The injury saw him leave the US camp to return to Nashville, though it’s unclear when he’ll be available for a return to the Nissan Stadium pitch as he rests that hamstring.

Defender Nick Hinds and goalkeeper Elliot Panicco

On season-long loans to Austin Bold FC in USL Championship. Nashville has right of recall if necessary.

Panicco and Hinds both started and went the distance as Austin Bold beat Real Monarchs SLC 1-0.

Panicco only needed to make two saves, back-to-back after bobbling the initial ball on a free kick:

He also completed 11/26 passes, 19 of those attempts longballs, and won his only aerial duel.

Hinds completed 29/37 passes, 30 of the attempts short balls, and completed 1/3 crosses, creating two chances for his team.. He won 4/11 duels, including his only aerial, and made one tackle and three clearances. He was fouleld once and committed one foul, for which he was shown the yellow card.

Up next: Austin @ Rio Grand Valley FC • Saturday, 8:00 p.m. CDT (ESPN+)
