Boys in Not Gold: March 16, 2021

Welcome to Boys in Not Gold, with the latest on Nashville SC players out on loan or national team duty (or still plying their trade in the NCAA ranks). A number of squads were out of action, so this is a little shorter than usual.

Winger Randall Leal

With Costa Rica’s U-23s for Concacaf Olympic Qualifying tournament through at least March 24

Leal is in Guadalajara with the Ticos as they attempt to take a top-two spot in a group with Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the United States, in order to stay alive in a quest to play in this Summer’s Olympics. Costa Rica’s group-stage games against the US and Mexico – i.e. the two that will most determine if Costa Rica goes through – take place before the next edition of this post will go up.

Up next: Costa Rica v. USMNT U-23 • 4:30 p.m. CDT Thursday (FS1)
Costa Rica v. Mexico U-23 • 8:30 p.m. CDT Sunday (FS1)

Defender Irakoze Donasiyano

With University of Virginia for the spring NCAA season.

Virginia fell to North Carolina 2-0 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Donasiyano started at right wingback in a 3-5-2, though as with a few other recent games, he was given some flexibility to move around the field. His lone statistical contribution was a yellow card in the 32nd minute that resulted in a (converted) penalty kick for the Tar Heels.

Up next: UVa v. Virginia Tech • 1 p.m. CDT Friday (ESPN+)

Forward Leroy Enzugusi

With Drake University for the spring NCAA season.

Drake beat Bradley 2-0 for the first win of Spring. Enzugusi took two shots, but didn’t put either of them on frame as his teammates carried the scoring load on the day.

Up next: Drake v. Loyola Chicago • 2 p.m. CDT Thursday

Defender Tom Judge

With James Madison University through spring NCAA season.

James Madison had a weekend off.

Up next: James Madison v. Elon • 1 p.m. CDT Sunday

Defender Sondre Norheim

With Syracuse University through the spring NCAA season.

Syracuse lost to Louisville 3-1 in Derby City. Norheim started at CB and got off two shots, one on-goal from a corner-kick situation.

Up next: Syracuse v. North Carolina • 1 p.m. CDT Saturday (ESPN+)

Goalkeeper Tor Saunders

With Coastal Carolina for the spring NCAA season.

Coastal Carolina had a weekend off – which should give Saunders some rest after he missed the Chanticleers’ previous game due to a minor injury.

Up next: Coastal Carolina v. (Nashville’s own!) Lipscomb • 1 p.m. CDT Saturday (ESPN+)
