The night of MLS results may not have turned out ideally for Nashville SC, but the short-term goal – guaranteeing a bid to the 2020 playoffs – has been achieved.
Thanks to Orlando City SC’s 3-1 victory over Atlanta United (knocking the Five Stripes below a level where they can catch Nashville SC in the table) and FC Dallas’s upset win over Inter Miami CF (so the Cranes also can’t catch the Boys in Gold), NSC can finish no lower than 10th – a playoff position – in the Eastern Conference standings.
Nashville SC currently sits on 28 points with 20 games played, and will close out with games against Chicago Fire, FC Dallas, and Orlando City over the next 10 days. Nashville can still technically finish as high as third in the table, though Orlando City’s win makes that much less likely (painfully so – an upset loss for Columbus Crew against DC United made that third-place finish look pretty likely if Orlando had lost, though obviously that would have delayed the official clinching by a couple days).
NSC will next try to improve its standing against Chicago Fire Saturday evening at Nissan Stadium.
