Nashville SC added a familiar face to the roster this morning. Oklahoma City Energy goalkeeper CJ Cochran will join to add some depth on loan through the remainder of the 2020 season:
Cochran played for Nashville’s USL side in 2018, making eight appearances in relief of veteran Matt Pickens. He allowed eight goals on 29 shots on target for an impressive 72.4% save rate. He played 13 contests for OKC this year (of 16 total for the club), saving 65.1% of shots faced.
This does raise the question of why NSC wouldn’t simply recall Brady Scott (whose season is also over – more on BiNG tomorrow) from Sacramento Republic, and rely on Elliot Panicco as the top backup and continue to develop Scott for the future. However, adding what is likely a backup keeper to the fold and bumping Panicco down to third to continue learning is likely best for his long-term development.
