Nashville SC midfielder Dax McCarty was narrowly beaten by Seattle’s Jordan Morris for Major League Soccer Player of the Week. McCarty was the North American Soccer Reporters media choice, but the massive fan voting for Cascadia clubs struck again, and Morris rode a strong social media presence to the victory.
Nashville SC has yet to produce a Player of the Week, but none has come as close as McCarty. The veteran had a goal, two primary assists, and an MLS assist in Nashville SC’s 4-2 win over Atlanta United. The contest was the first time this yer that Atlanta United had conceded four goals, and the first time NSC had put multiple goals on the scoreboard. He earned a spot on the MLS Team of the Week for his efforts, and head coach Gary Smith was the TOTW coach.
McCarty will next lead his team against Columbus Crew SC Saturday evening on the road. The 33-year-old captain has a goal and four assists in 19 career appearances against Columbus – the majority of that production coming in his time with the New York Red Bulls.
