Nashville SC

Boys in Not Gold: Aug. 11, 2020

Welcome to Boys in Not Gold. Wonder what Nashville SC’s players on loan (or on national team duty) are up to? Here’s your regular recap. We’re a day late due to the Big News Day yesterday.

Luke Haakenson

On loan with Charlotte Independence in the USL Championship

Haakenson started and went the full 96 (USL took a crowbar to its website and broke it this offseason, but going back through my notes, this was his first start-to-finish appearance as a pro) as a central midfielder for Charlotte in a 4-1 loss to Birmingham Legion FC Wednesday – after Birmingham scored two early goals, played almost entirely in Charlotte’s offensive half.

Surely it shocks USL holdovers to see that his chance was created from a rebound on a horrible shooting decision by Enzo Martinez.

Haakenson took three shots – two blocked, and one over the bar from just outside the box – and completed 29/34 passes (85.3%). He went 6/14 on duels (a big number), though 0/3 on aerials. He blocked two opponent shots, came away with one tackle, and cleared the ball twice defensively. He both committed and suffered one foul.

Charlotte was back in action Saturday, hosting Charleston Battery to a 1-1 draw. Haakenson came on as a 66th-minute sub and played 31 minutes, receiving a yellow card in the 90+4th minute for a hard foul. He completed 10/11 passes (including one for a key pass) and 0/1 crosses. He won 1/3 duels and took one foul.

Charlotte is now 1-1-2 on the season.

Up next: Charlotte Independence v. Birmingham Legion. 7:00 p.m. EDT Wednesday. Charlotte has another two-game week, hosting Memphis Saturday, as well.

Cameron Lancaster

On loan with Louisville City FC in the USL Championship.

Louisville drew Indy Eleven 1-1 at Lynn Family Stadium Saturday. Lancaster started and went 90 minutes.

He took nine shots, but only one found the target (three were off-frame, and five were blocked). He completed 16 of 21 passes and won 9/16 duels and 3/6 aerial duels. He blocked five shots(!!! a dude being involved in 10 blocked shots in a game has to be some sort of record) and was fouled six times.

Louisville is now 2-3-1 on the season

Up next: Louisville City FC v. Sporting Kansas City II Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT
Two-game week alert: Louisville City FC also hosts Loudoun United Saturday.

Tanner Dieterich

On loan with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in USL League One

Dieterich was loaned to USL-1 side Chattanooga last week. He did not join the team until after its return from a trip to North Texas SC (the Red Wolves battled to a 2-2 draw), though, so this week will feature his first opportunities to see the field as a pro.

Up next: Chattanooga Red Wolves v. Union Omaha Wednesday at 5 p.m. EDT
Two-game week sees CRSC travel to Greenville Triumph Saturday at 7 p.m. EDT
