MLS Players Association ratifies new CBA, 2020 season set to resume

Big news! MLSPA didn’t go #NotesApp for this one, but not far off:

We’re still a ways off from actual soccer – there will be a training camp in Orlando preceding the tournament previously outlined by Sam Stejskal and Paul Tenorio in The Athletic – but it’s a massive step in the right direction.

The negotiations over the past couple weeks had involved the league’s owners trying to walk back some of the gains made by MLSPA in the agreed-upon CBA, citing the coronavirus shutdown (and resulting loss of revenue) as reasons to create terms more favorable to ownership – ostensibly to keep the business alive. A force majeure clause that would have allowed for player contract nullifications in the event of decreased attendance was a particular sticking point for MLSPA, though it wasn’t the only.

Also, what’s the deal with releasing statements in image form instead of a re-sharable format? I don’t care for it!
