Double-dip on the pic, but it’s because Aníbal Godoy is the newsworthy one the second week in a row.
I’ll save intra-MLS players – without new information, at least – for a big roundup later. Otherwise, they’re chillin’ unless there’s new info.
Joining in January
Aníbal Godoy – with San Jose Earthquakes until the MLS trade window
Godoy was called up for Panama’s Nations League game against Mexico and friendly against Bolivia next Friday and the following Tuesday, respectively. However, he suffered a training injury and pulled out of camp.
Randall Leal – with Deportivo Saprissa until January transfer window
Thursday, Saprissa beat Olimpia de Tegucigalpa (Honduras) 4-1 to overcome a 0-2 deficit and advance to the Concacaf League Final on a 4-3 aggregate scoreline. Leal took one shot but did not contribute to the final scoreline. He did manage to be called the best player that Costa Rica has.
Sunday, Saprissa drew last-place Universidad de Costa Rica in league play, though Leal (along with a number of other typical starters) was not in the heavily rotated matchday squad.
Costa Rica’s squad for the international window (which will include Nations League games against Curaçao and Haiti) will be announced Friday.
Up next: Saprissa hosts Motagua (Honduras) in the first leg of the Concacaf League final Thursday at 8:00 p.m. CST. Then, Los Morados travel to Jicaron in the penultimate league match of the season Sunday at 3:00 p.m. CST.
Hany Mukhtar – with Brøndby IF until January transfer window
Brøndby beat Silkeborg 1-0 in league action Monday afternoon. Mukhtar assisted on the game-winning strike:
Up next: Brøndby hosts Esbjeg, with Sunday’s 9:00 a.m. game not available for viewing in the United States.
