Nashville SC announced a bit of a throwback personnel move today: midfielder Vinnie Vermeer will be loaned to Las Vegas Lights until the end of the regular season. NSC made this very move before recalling him when numbers got thin at the position.
From Club release:
NASHVILLE (Aug. 01, 2019) – Nashville Soccer Club announced today the club has sent Vinnie Vermeer back to USL Championship Western Conference side Las Vegas Lights FC through the remainder of the 2019 season.
The midfielder was originally loaned to Las Vegas Lights FC on July 3 but was recalled just a week later to strengthen a Nashville SC roster thinned by injuries.=
Nashville SC (10W-5D-5L, 35 pts.) returns to action this weekend when they visit Swope Park Rangers on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. CST on ESPN+.
Transaction: Vinnie Vermeer returns to Las Vegas Lights FC on loan through the remainder of the 2019 USL Championship season.
The loan probably means more about Nashville’s getting closer to full health in central midfield than it does any failing of Vermeer’s. He was recalled when Michael Reed and Matt LaGrassa were injured in the same game, and started against Memphis 901 FC. Reed started alongside Bolu Akinyode against Indy Eleven over the weekend, while Derrick Jones continues to get closer to the field after suffering a long-term ankle injury in US Open Cup play May 29.
Vermeer has the opportunity to get game minutes in Vegas (he didn’t appear for the Lights in his previous ephemeral stint on loan, being recalled after just seven days, with only one game played in that time).
