Halftime reset: Nashville SC 0-1 Tampa Bay Rowdies

NASHVILLE – In a matchup of two top Eastern Conference sides, it’s the Tampa Bay Rowdies with the halftime lead after a set piece goal put them ahead of the home side.

A free kick granted on the side of the penalty area saw striker Sebastian Guenzatti nod the ball back across the face of goal, where Juan Tejada was able to poke the ball past Nashville keeper Matt Pickens. A team that’s seen much of the success against it come on set plays was bitten once again.

It was a rough first half at times, with 16 total fouls called (and innumerable “hey scooch back!” motions made on throw-ins) by center official Guido Gonzales Jr. The Rowdies capitalized on one of their opportunities, the Boys in Gold have yet to do so.

Nashville had four total shots – two on goal – but serious threats to John McCarthy’s goal have yet to emerge, aside from a header nodded wide of the post by forward Kharlton Belmar. Nashville has to make the most of those opportunities to take down a Rowdies team that’s only conceded four times so far this season.

Starting lineups

Tampa came out in exactly my projected lineup so I’ll be lazy and just repost the preview image.
