The draw is here: Inter Nashville FC will take a trip across I-40 (and then down) to Matthews, North Carolina to take on the Charlotte Eagles in the first round of the 2018 US Open Cup. The Eagles went 9-3-2 last Summer, finishing one point ahead of Nashville SC’s U-23 team in the South Atlantic Division of the Premier Development League.
The game will take place at 7 p.m. May 9 at the Mecklenburg County Sports Complex. While the full draw was not released (per USOC guidelines, each first-round pairing is supposed to be matched with a second-round entrant, which includes USL teams), it is semi-safe to assume that Nashville SC will take on the winner of the match, given the second-round pairings are made geographically. They could also take on the winner of a New Orleans Jesters-Mississippi Brilla first-round game, because there isn’t a more convenient second-division (USL) opponent for either of those teams.
That announcement will come April 11.
The second-round matches take place a week later, May 16. NSC would likely host the match regardless of the first-round winner. A different venue (not Nissan Stadium nor First Tennessee Park) is expected for a home venue in the US Open Cup should the Boys in Gold be selected to host a match.
