Nashville SC trades international slots for GAM

#HotTimWinter AF. Nashville SC unloads some international slots in order to pick up some allocation scratch. From Club release:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 13, 2023) – Nashville Soccer Club announced today the trade of five 2024 international roster spots in exchange for $825,000 in 2024 and 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM).

New York City FC received two international spots in exchange for $325,000 in 2024 GAM, Charlotte FC also received two in exchange for $300,000 in 2024 GAM and $25,000 in 2025 GAM, and St. Louis CITY SC received one in exchange for $175,000 in 2024 GAM.

Nashville SC release

NYCFC and Charlotte both got slots from NSC for $162,500 a pop, while St. Louis METRO AREA SC paid $175k. Time value of money and all for the Charlotte transaction ($25,000 of the GAM is delayed until the 2025 season), but it would appear that St. Louis did the least-good business of the three trade partners to this point.

Nashville’s use (or lack thereof) of international slots is an ongoing trend, of course. The club builds largely from within the league, picking up players who have US citizenship or Green Cards – and thus do not require international slots. At this stage, Sam Surridge and Lukas MacNaughton (who was born in the US, so Permanent Resident Status and/or Citizenship should be a fairly simple flip) are the only NSC players requiring international slots. The Boys in Gold, like all teams, start with eight slots per season – and I believe these are the first they’ve sold for the 2024 allotment.
