Only a bye for Nashville SC can keep Hany Mukhtar from making Team of the Matchday lately. After making the list in Weeks 14 and 15, he’s back on it for Week 17 after the Boys in Gold took a break in the midweek so he had no opportunity for Matchday 16. He also finished fifth in Player of the Matchday voting despite not making the public ballot, with 13.0% of the media vote.
Mukhtar scored the game-winning goal against FC Dallas in the 77th minute against FC Dallas, giving Nashville a second goal in Toyota Stadium – the first time any visiting team had pulled off that feat. He completed three of five attempted dribbles, including a nutmeg of José Martinez on the game-deciding run that left the Spaniard on the ground as Mukhtar converted. He also completed 26/30 passes, created two chances, and took one additional shot (off-target). He won possession back once defensively, and was fouled twice.
This is Hany’s sixth selection so far in 2023, and the team’s 12th. Given that he was also on the TOTM for Weeks 10 and 11, it’s his fifth in the past seven NSC games played along with the three-straight honor. Lukas MacNaughton was on Matchdate 13 TOTM. Mukhtar and Walker Zimmerman were both named to the Teams of Matchdate 6, 10, and 11 as a duo. Mukhtar was also Player of the Matchdate in Week 11. Zimmerman was also among the honored for the opening weekend of MLS play.
