Hany Mukhtar, Dan Lovitz named to MLS Team of Matchdate 15

“CONGRATS DANIEL!” Mike Meredith/Club and Country

You record an assist and a highlight goal to cap the game, you make the team of the week. Also if you’re a defensive player who just does the assist part.

Mukhtar assisted – via corner kick – Fafa Picault’s second-half goal that leveled the score. In second-half stoppage time, he provided the insurance tally (after missing a chance for one minutes earlier) that saw out Nashville SC’s 3-1 win. in between, Lovitz’s corner-kick service saw Teal Bunbury on the end of what was ultimately the game-winning goal.

Mukhtar had seven total shots, four of them on-target, and completed 21/31 passes. He successfully completed two of his three attempted dribbles, won possession for his team six times, and committed one foul.

Lovitz led the team with 88 touches on the ball, completing 47/64 passes. He won five aerial duels and all four of his attempted tackles(!). He won possession back nine times and both committed and suffered one foul. He tied for the team lead with three created chances, including the one on Bunbury’s goal.

This is Hany’s fifth selection so far in 2023, Lovitz’s first, and the team’s 10th and 11th. It’s a back-to-back honor for Mukhtar, who also made the list last week. Lukas MacNaughton was on Matchdate 13 TOTM. Mukhtar and Walker Zimmerman were both named to the Teams of Matchdate 6, 10, and 11 as a duo. Mukhtar was also Player of the Matchdate in Week 11. Zimmerman was also among the honored for the opening weekend of MLS play.
