Nashville SC acquires $75k GAM for Discovery Rights

From Club release:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 26, 2021) – Nashville Soccer Cub announced today it has traded the discovery rights of Déiber Caicedo to Vancouver Whitecaps FC for $75,000 in General Allocation Money.

Transactions: Nashville SC trades the discovery rights of Déiber Caicedo to Vancouver Whitecaps FC for $75,000 in General Allocation Money, contingent on Vancouver signing the player to an MLS contract.

This deal has been coming down the pipe since interest between Vancouver and Caicedo came out within the past few weeks. Nashville SC had the Colombian on its discovery list, and gets an asset in exchange for Vancouver’s desire to sign him.

Caicedo was one of several Central and South American players linked to the Boys in Gold last Summer (they ultimately landed Venezuelan Jhonder Cádiz), but NSC never got to the point where putting pen to ink seemed inevitable – albeit closer than they were with Chivas’s Ake Loba (an Ivorian, but playing in Latin America) or Maxi Romero.

MLS rules state that Discovery Rights have a going rate of $50k, but in practice, that’s negotiable. Nashville spent $100k on Hany Mukhtar’s rights from Seattle Sounders, for example.

Nashville has now netted $1.025 million in Genera Allocation Money since the end of the regular season (and has that as cash-type-substance on-hand in addition to allocation funds that went unused during 2020 for future roster spending).
